My Tribe
The reason life works at all, is because not everyone in your tribe is depressed on the same day. Have you ever noticed that on the day you feel lower than a snake’s belly, someone in your tribe makes you laugh out loud? Then sometimes the table turns and they’re having a bad day and it’s your turn to bring joy into their life. I’m thankful that we don’t all crash at the same time!!
Family and Friends
Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs. They accept you for who you are, with all your faults and weaknesses. They’re the ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what. I have some of them in my life and I pray you do too.
New Creation
If the devil keeps bringing up your past, it’s because he is running out of new material. That’s great! It means you aren’t the person you used to be! He’s got nothing new on you because YOU are a new creation in Christ Jesus. Don’t you know it makes the devil fighting mad?
Triggers
Let’s talk about triggers. If we’re honest, we know it’s easier to avoid temptation than resist it. That’s why keeping a cabinet full of “chocolate triggers” when you know you can’t stay out of it is a bad idea when you’re on a diet. Making plans to hit the bars when you’ve been sober for a year is a bad idea. When you have a person who takes you to a place of gossip or anger, going around them is a bad idea. Recognize triggers for what they are…temptations just waiting to take you back into bondage.
You’re Tough
Tough times don’t last, but tough people do. This year has been a challenge. But you’re no quitter. You don’t let life get you down. You don’t mumble and complain. Through the last few months, we have learned one thing: Never take anything for granted. It may not be here tomorrow!
Keep Walking
In the 23rd Psalm, it says: Yea, when I WALK through the valley of the shadow of death….Pay very close attention to the word “walk”. It didn’t say stop, and it didn’t say lay down or build a tent, it said just keep walking. Whatever you’re going through today, just lift your foot and keep walking. And at those times when you feel like you’re in a dark place and your strength is gone, remember Footprints in the Sand. When you walk with Jesus, there are two sets of footprints but when you just can’t go any further, Jesus says: “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you…Never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, it’s then that I carried you.” Rest in that thought today.
